This workshop will focus on co-regulation versus self-regulation, and the partnership of a connected regulated adult and dysregulated child, strategies, tools, approaches. Learning will also focus on brainstem reactions and brain stem calmers, using a trauma informed lens and sensory integration strategies.

 

Learning Outcomes: Early Childhood Educators should be able to:

  • explain the difference between co-regulation and self-regulation.
  • implement sensory strategies to support co-regulation.
  • explain what brainstem reactions are and use brainstem calming activities to support children through these fight/flight/freeze reactions.
  • recognize when these strategies are not enough and when more support is needed, including where to look for the extra support.
